and in may 2021 we gathered the opinions of the ph community to help them with their bid.<\/p><p>the \u2018hybrid heart\u2019 consists of a soft robotic shell, artificial muscles and sensors to enable natural motion. tissue-engineered lining will make sure all surfaces in contact with blood are safe. energy transfer (electricity) will be transferred wirelessly from a close power source worn in the patient\u2019s clothing.<\/p><p>the hope is that the hybrid heart could replace the need for heart transplantation from human donors, meaning more lives can be saved.<\/p><p>for people with pulmonary hypertension, it means that a heart transplant alone &#8211; without lungs too &#8211; would be possible, because unlike a human heart, the right side of the hybrid heart would be able to deal with the pressures caused by ph.<\/p><p>the project has been shortlisted with three others for up to \u00a330m of funding from the british heart foundation. <\/p><p><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-purple-color\"><strong>there were 199 responses to our survey about the innovation.<\/strong><\/span> <strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-purple-color\">find the full results <a href=\"\/\/www.aselpijama.com\/app\/uploads\/2021\/06\/hybrid-heart-pha-uk-survey-report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>. <\/span><\/strong><\/p><p><em><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-purple-color\">responses were overwhelmingly positive, with 100% of respondents stating they think the potential development of the hybrid heart is \u2018very important\u2019 or \u2018important\u2019. 99% stated they are \u2018very interested\u2019 or \u2018interested\u2019 in its development.<\/span><\/em><\/p><p><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-purple-color\">comments included:<\/span><\/p><p><em><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-purple-color\">\u201ci\u2019m so impressed by this. it\u2019s the first time i\u2019ve felt actual hope around the disease\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p><p><em><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-purple-color\">\u201c[the] future suddenly seems brighter\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p><p><em><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-purple-color\">\u201ci\u2019d take this hybrid heart tomorrow if i could.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p><p>hybrid heart is led by professor jolanda kluin at the university of amsterdam, netherlands.<\/p><p><strong>find out more about the hybrid heart project <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hybridheart.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> <\/strong><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>view the survey results here researchers in the netherlands are seeking funding to create a solution for heart failure by developing a pioneering soft robotic heart &#8211;
